WAITROSE CHANGE THEIR POLICY!
Thank you one and all for joining in this mini campaign! Well done to all those including our KBCL Secretary Matt and Rob Simmons and to our members, supporters and friends and those of our members and friends in the other Celtic Nations who supported us!
"Dear Secretary - Kernow Branch Celtic League
Thank you for your email, though I am sorry that the flag symbol has caused offense.
I am pleased to inform you that based on customer feedback, this has now been removed from all Cornish products.
I hope this has been of assistance.
Kind regards
Jourdan Gabbini
Waitrose Customer Sales and Support."
and our Kernow Branch Celtic League Branch Secretary Matt tactfully responds:
"Jourdan wheg,
Meur ras bras (that is "Many thanks" in Cornish) for removing the English flag from Cornish products.
The St Piran flag (white cross, black background) is internationally recognised as Cornish and is synonymous with everything Cornish.
Cornish is going through the process of minority protection in central government, while Cornwall Council already recognises Cornish as a minority and so all things relating to Cornish identity are in the process of statutory protection.
As you have no doubt discovered, Cornish people do not like being called English; this is not against English people, but dislike of assimilation by a foreign culture.
I thank you again for your sensitivity and hope you continue to recognise Cornish diversity.
Yn lel,
Branch Secretary,
Kernow Branch Celtic League
